About Urban Fig: Carol Carimi Acutt

Founder Carol Carimi Acutt with her daughter

Carol Carimi Acutt founded UrbanFig after many years of food gardening in her Los Angeles backyard. She comes from the world of television as an editor, producer and documentary filmmaker. She’s also a certified yoga teacher and a mother of two girls. To Carol, growing food is about power. Our food system is broken. We don’t know what chemicals are sprayed on our food or what we ingest that is genetically modified. After falling in love with her mini-food garden, she decided to help her fellow urbanites to start their own edible garden. Her mission? To make growing food easy and enjoyable for busy people. She believes everyone should enjoy fresh healthy food from their own garden – it empowers us to make positive change, it inspires our cooking and it’s the start of a sustainable system of “ grow, cook, compost.” UrbanFig is a place where anyone can learn how to grow food easily, share ideas and help change the world. She says, with a raised bed or container, sun, good soil and a little bit of time, everyone can grow their own delicious organic food.

Email her at carol@urbanfig.com with questions about starting your own garden.
