What better way to start the New Year off fresh than to help your body to shed some of last year’s bad habits? Fresh herbs can help cleanse and detox the body while adding flavor, vitamins and minerals to your diet! Here are a few of our absolute favorite cleansing herbs, along with some information you might not have been aware of about them:

Mint is effective to combat nausea, headaches and congestion. Mint is likewise good for the skin. A tea made from mint leaves is an amazing antiseptic skin cleanser that will work wonders on pimples, infections and insect bites.

Oregano contains two powerful antibacterial compounds, thymol and carvacrol. In fact, research has shown that oregano may be more effective at treating Giardiasis infection than prescription drugs. The popular herb has more antioxidants than apples, blueberries and even oranges! Oregano is also rich in fiber, necessary for proper elimination of waste from the body.

Basil isn’t just for homemade pesto anymore! It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that contains flavonoids known for protecting cells from dangerous radiation. It has been used for centuries as a topical treatment for infections as well as an internal treatment for common viruses like cold and flu.

Rosemary is a miracle herb! Beyond the culinary wonders it is known for, rosemary is incredible at controlling oil and dandruff on the scalp.  Rosemary also works within the liver to deactivate accumulated toxins and flush them from the system. Studies have also shown that merely smelling rosemary can stimulate the mind while simultaneously relaxing the body.
