Leaf Minors – What’s Leaving Those Weird Veins on my Leaves?

by on November 3, 2011

[portfolio_slideshow]If you look at these photos, you’ll notice little trails that look like a map of waterways. But of course, it’s not a map, it’s your poor little plant’s leaves. This is caused by leaf minors. Don’t fret! Just cut these leaves off (or even the whole branch if necessary) and usually the other parts of your plant will not be affected. Notice that leaf minors also causes your leaves to curl up. For some preventative medicine, spray some worm tea 1 -3 times per week or even every 2 weeks to increase the health of your plant. If you’re still having trouble, there are many great organic solutions like Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Spray that will keep leaf minors away.

Most importantly, check your plants every day or so to make sure they are looking healthy. If you address little problems right away, it’s likely that infestations or disease won’t take over your beautiful veggies.

You could have aphids – that causes leaves to curl. Look closely at the leaves on the underside and see if you see little black, white or green bugs. Most likely, they are aphids. You can hose them off or use an insecticidal soap for organic gardening. http://urbanfig.com/how-to-control-aphids/
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My Meyer lemon tree has curly leaves with white streaks. I also found a very small worm like critter. Is that what is causing my leaves to curl? How can I get rid of them? Thank you in advance.

The “spider web” things are from white fly. Use Captain Jack’s http://shop.urbanfig.com/captain-jacks-dead-bug-spray-32oz/

Spray it down with a hose and then apply. Good luck.
